I’m considering getting my teeth laser whitened. I don’t smoke, drink wine, and I will stop drinking coke & coffee.
How long should the whiteness last for under these conditions? What can I do to keep them staying bright?
With only laser whitening (& possibly take home trays), Can I achieve that celebrity bright smile?
Thanks
PS - Please don’t tell me to save my money and do the whitening toothpaste or crest white strips. I am only interested in laser whitening - I have the money, that’s not a problem.
“Laser whitening” is a bit of a waste of money unless you’re getting married the next day. The laser has no effect, it just looks high-tech, and you pay for it.
Really, it is the higher concentration of bleach that works, and has nothing to do with the laser. Split-mouth studies have been done which show this. This higher concentration of bleach also dehydrates the teeth, so you get a quicker, whiter look, but if this is all you do, then there is a significant relapse as the teeth rehydrate.
For a good lasting change, bleaching works best as a take-home technique where it is done more slowly over a longer period of time than “lasers”. This is probably why the above ‘Manda M’ got a better result than her brother.
I’d suggest a 10% carbamide peroxide bleach worn as a tray overnight. I’ve given some patients the faster-acting hydrogen peroxide, but the results haven’t been as good.
The moral: a quick fix is not always the best fix.

I do not know the cost of laser therapy, however if you are worried about cancer, just quit cold turkey. I smoked three packs a day and I quit that way. You can do it. And if you love yourself, do it. I am a cancer survivor.

.gmonte33 had it right.. ZYBAN! I tried to give up smoking way too many times; always failing, I tried patches, Gum and even that Chantix.. Nothing worked like Zyban. I went to RemedyMeds.Com . They have all of your prescription drugs available 24/7. you do not even need a prior prescription. they have US licensed doctors evaluate and write you a prescription, they then have a US licensed Pharmacy ship them to you OVERNIGHT via FedEx delivery. good luck.. Zyban worked wonders for me!

We’ve been together for 4 years, he lived in a different city for 3 years and when he moved in with me he quit smoking. 6 months later he started again, once a week. Now he’s at the point where he wants to smoke 24/7, the problem is though that his personality has changed he’s been back on it. He’s selfish and inconsiderate, angry and nuts out over nothing, has NO respect for me and we fight all the time. This is only since he started smoking again. He wants to smoke so badly that he would have cheated on me so I’d leave him if I hadn’t of busted him when I did. He says he’d choose weed over me and doesn’t want to stop because he enjoys it. I really am worried for him though because the person he has become isn’t nice and if he keeps going the way he is, he won’t have anyone. All his friends smoke too and they’re happy enough to complain about him to me but none of them have the guts to tell him what they think and they continue to smoke with him. I’m nearly at my wits end, our relationship is crumbling down around us and the thing that is causing all the problems he won’t put a stop to. Leaving him isn’t an option, I’ve tried that once and couldn’t cope.
Thanks everyone! I think I already knew that I have to leave, I just didn't want to admit it. I've told him its me or the green, he's gonna use the next month to cut down then quit. So if he doesn't follow through wih it, then sadly its over.
Unfortunately, you cannot change a person, they have to want to change. If he chooses smoking over you, well then, I guess he has made his choice. It will be one of the hardest things you may ever have to do, but leaving looks like the only logical option. When someone is that far addicted , no one can bring that person back unless they want to. For your sanity and well-being, and for his potential to eventually quit, you have to leave. Maybe he will wake up and see that you are more important than smoking. If not, it is better to have temporary grief than a lifetime of unhappiness.

im in two minds to start smoking again im really bad to live wit any sugesstions on what to do please help
Obviously the hypnosis is not effective I'd demand my money back. But seriously, it takes about 10 days for the physical addiction of nicotine to subside, as your body is trying to purge itself. After that it's all psychological addiction that you must figure out ie… the reasons you are drawn to smoking in the first place, and why you may feel the desire for another.
If you feel it's to much for you, try the patch or nicotine gum.
This will take a bit of self regulating, the idea is of course to wean yourself off the dependence.
Furthermore, you need to keep yourself as busy as humanly possible, as this will help to keep your mind off your cravings. Go jogging, your lungs will hate you for it but, it WILL keep you mindful of what your shooting for.

Given the huge impact smoking has on morbidity rates, health insurance claim payments and insurance premiums, it seems to be common sense that health insurers would cover smoking cessation drugs.
Unfortunately, most do not, unless the state where the contract is issued requires it. My state is one of these. Companies rely upon the short-sighted arguments that the drugs are expensive, sometimes don't work if the person fails to take them consistently and that this is a "lifestyle improvement issue," typically not covered by health insurance.
If you feel very strongly about this issue, speak with your state delegate and urge him or her to propose adding this as a "mandated benefit" in your state.
I hope this helps.

you have to actually make up your mind that you want to quit. And get rid of all your ashtrays. I just one day about 2 months ago decided I didn't want them anymore and I haven't smoked since or will I again.. Don't think of it as quitting, try to think of it as giving them up. I've been off them for two months and you will not believe how much better I feel. but I don't think the feeling of needing a cig goes away for allot longer because sometimes I still feel like I could use one. but what stops me is I think I'm better than they are and I don't need them anymore, and my will power is stronger than any substance. so here's to you Phillip Morris, I stick my thumb to my nose and blow you a great big RASPBERRY…

I have quit and can not stand the smell on him anymore. Its such a turn off.
Maybe if you told him that it's a turn off that would help (or alternatively, make him feel especially sexy only when he gets with the program). He's bound to be stubborn, but you're doing the right thing by trying to get him to stop. Good luck!

iv'e been smoking since i was 14 now im 23 and cant stop i smoke a whole quarter pound in a week, with my bf of course and we want to stop. weve already tried cold turkey and that so didnt work. i wish i could get hypnotized. any ideas???
Discuss it with your doctor. There may be medication you can use to help. Another thing that is probably a must, but very difficult for some, is to not hang out with other people who do it. If you have a lot of friends who do it, you might need to find some new friends. Otherwise, just keep trying. Like any addiction, it sometimes takes multiple attempts before you pull it off. Good luck!

Now 42, Wood smokes a pack a day (in monetary terms, about $3,600 worth a year) and wants to kick the habit.
He quit cold turkey for six months in 1996, the year his daughter was born. When he started smoking again (Players Light are his 'poison') he lit up even more regularly than before.

blockquote cite=http://www.thenewstribune.com/news/updates/story/585712.htmlConcerned by recent studies indicating the combined stresses of the holidays and the economic downturn are increasing tobacco use, anti-smoking groups are stepping up efforts to help smokers kick the habit.
The state Department of Health has initiated a media campaign to draw attention to a state-sponsored program that hands out free nicotine patches and nicotine gum.
“We know the tough economy is hitting people hard,” secretary of health Mary Selecky said recently. “It’s another good reason for those who smoke to try quitting. It will improve their health and they’ll save money at the same time.”/blockquote

As a hospital CEO, I can personally attest to the cost of treating sick smokers. Roughly one-third of all of the inpatients that we see at my hospital have a medical condition that can be attributed to their history of smoking. While increasing the tax may not single-handedly balance the state's budget, it will raise money, give people yet another reason to quit and it will help Florida achieve the most significant goal - saving lives./blockquote
